if we do 15 mph for the entire dragon it would still be less than an hour... like 50 minutes.. lol

It might take us 20 minutes to get TO the dragon, but only about 30 minutes to drive through it I imagine...

Of course the drive back is 30 min too.... so an hour total... and 20+20 to get there and back... So yea, 2 hours I guess overall.

i spoke with a guy here in naples 2day he does z days there for the past 4 years. he said the same thing jeff did early runs are the best mid day is jammed uhh. he said every year they lose a car to the dragon, not totalled but someone crashed outta the 200 cars they get. so BE CAREFUL.

he said its a 2nd and 3rd gear drive fastest he went was 80mph

we really should check this with jeff like wat time to run and stuff he knows more

The dragon is best to be run early or a little later in the day.  I would say 3 pm would be great because then the photographers will still be out there.  There really isn't any place to take pics until you get to the top.  The skyway is a drive from the dragon but is well worth it.  I believe where we are staying might be close to the blue ridge?  If so we should definitely take the blue ridge for a while till we hit that one road that I went on on the way home.  The blue ridge is breath taking in the scenery that you'll see too.  Plenty of stop points to take some pics.  We might want to do heats instead of one big group.  It might be easier.  Also we will have to watch out for the po po on the dragon.  THP is notorious for bs tickets.  Touching the center line with a tire is grounds for a big ticket.  Also, you will need to bring proof of insurance.  I remember 2 years ago we got stopped at a checkpoint and they were looking for a valid license and a proof of insurance.  So remember to bring that.

I'm anticipating a ticket this year. I haven't had one for awhile now, and I think I'm due  :-X

I've been pulled over 3 times in the last month with no ticket, and one of the times was for doing donuts in an AWD Ford 500 hahahaha

I'm gonna make sure I have allllll the necessary paper work at hand and be extra courteous hahaha.

still the fastest n/a 3 in Michigan

^^^ good points.

Early morning can be real foggy.

The LEOs show up round 10ish.

Having groups of less than ten helps alot.

What i tell people is to cruise through at the speed limit it on the first pass so that You know where the po is and to get a feel for the road.

I'm driving in Friday morning and will take 129 in from Knoxville, so I'll be coming in on the Tail of the Dragon, until I get to NC 28, which I read is called the Hellbender I believe and is a 55 MPH road were the Dragon is only 30 MPH. NC 28 leads to Robbinsville also just in a round about way.

I'll be dropping by the Mansion as soon as I hit town to unload all the goodies I'm bringing. This will be the best fed Mazda meet ever.
