Title: What have you done to your car to get ready for EECMM?
Post by: 08cosmic3 on December 15, 2008, 04:16:14 PM
I'll start. I recently installed a Amsoil Dry Filter on my Cobb SRI and changed my tranny fluid to MT-90. I have a Medieval Rear Motor Mount and a Redline Tuner Hood Quicklift Kit on order that will be on the car this week. Next will be front and rear sway bars, not sure if I should get the Cobb or Hotchkis. I'm leaning toward the Cobb sways. The sways should come in handy when I ride the Tail Of The Dragon. I'll have to wait till spring before I have the money for the Sways.

Hey Zoom 3, I was in your area recently. I'm an Appalachian Trail section hiker and I hiked the section from Pine Grove Furnace State Park to the little town of Duncannon just north of Harrisburg. My next section will be from Duncannon to somewhere into Jersey but not until the summer of 2010.

You guys really do suck with topics...

If all goes as semi-thinking right now I'll have about 6k more into my car and it will be the talk of the show... lol

But we'll see if I decide to do it or not... I'm weighing my options.

If not, probably some gas like Brian.

I recently just got the cobb sri, but i might try to invest into some rear sways if not both and i will most likely need new tires so i have no idea.

as for preps for the car show there will be a few neat things

I just found out that the vent pods are available for the boost gauge from the RPM store. I ordered one but will have to wait til spring to get the gauge and install it. I don't know how to wire it up so I'll be doing some research on this.

Parts currently waiting to be installed:
nuespeed SRI
APR Downpipe w/HFC
REVO stage 2 software

Just need to get my fuel pump taken care of before I move on to stage 2, I'll be at stage 2+ for the meet..
Meaning APR Highflow fuel pump and nuespeed FMIC as well

Ill also have my SPS for REVO, running both the 93 and 101 octane files. Hopefully ill be able to find 101 octane there so I can really kick some speeds asses  ;)

I'll have my AMG rims and koni coils by then too, as well as a .:R32 front end and interior conversion hopefully!

If any ones cares what the dub guy will be running on the dragon  ::)

I heard there are no stretched tires allowed on the dragon..

Jk, but I think the gas station at the bottom of the dragon does have higher octane gas for some of the performance bikes/cars that run down there.  They don't call them regular, super and premium if I'm not mistaking, they have a "dragon theme" which I found comical when I stopped there.

Sweet!

Then I will def have to get my SPS so I can drive down on 93, then switch to 101 for the dragon and any highway runs etc..

No its not..  Dude's car was in a vdub magazine.  I got it from photography-on-the.net, its a highly respected Canon camera forum.

Edit:

Just picked up some new shoes.. Got them for cheap, probably going to end up being a winter wheel (replace the steelies I have).  This set is the 4th set of wheels/tires I have now.

Its just the pic, there is plenty of meat left on them.  They aren't exactly the right size for the car though so I plan on getting different tires anyways.  I'll run with these for a bit in the spring then switch back to the oldies but goldies..  Like I said, these will probably be reporting for winter duty next year anyways...

I'm still sticking to my opinion that the pic with the GTI is chopped.

And those KDWs have no tread on them. Dude, that can't be the angle of the pic. I've had two sets of KDWs, I'm pretty familiar with them. On the flip side, I think it'll look pretty sick on the wb hatch.

Remi:  I'm not saying they are brand new, they have a few thousand left on them.  They do have a weird wear on them though.  The outside (rim face side) seems to be wore but the rest of the meat is good.  Also, here is another pic of the same VW with different wheels.

Installed a Medieval rear motor mount yesterday. Today I'm going to install the Redline Tunning Hood Quicklift kit that the big brown truck delivered yesterday. I have to go to Lowes and buy a rivet gun for the install. I've never used a rivet gun before so I hope I don't screw it up. I'll post pics if the install is successful and will deny ever trying if I screw it up.

OK, Back to the thread topic. I don't have as much money to spend so I did a cheap mod today. Spent $30 on LED interior and License plate lights. I purchased the cool white which has a slight blue tint and installed 2 map, dome, trunk and 2 tag lights. Looks cool as hell and much brighter than stock. My tag has a lot of blue color in the design and with the cool white bulbs hinting blue the tag now glows blue. It's classy, unlike the neon lighted plates that look rice.

Title: Re: What have you done to your car to get ready for EECMM?
Post by: 08cosmic3 on January 16, 2009, 12:55:02 AM
Yes. Very easy, there is a how to.

http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123698529

I did not replace all the bulbs in the how-to. I did not replace the glove box light which involves panel and glove box removal.
I only did maps, dome, trunk and tag lights. $30 shipped. If you want to go rice they have colored lights, turn your car into a disco.
I bought the cool white which is the most expensive option and they have a slight blue hue to them which for me was perfect. It takes 20 minutes tops. When reinstalling your tag lights be careful to clip them back in snug. When I clipped mine back in one was loose and moved around where the other was solid. I realized after pulling it back out and looking at it that it needs to be pushed in at the right angle for the back to clip or slide into a slot properly before the snaps are set or it will be loose. It's hard to describe but I figured it out so others should be able to as well. Just remember when you reinstall the tag lights that they should be snug with no movement. Before removing the trunk light, place a piece of tape over the hole under the bulb. Many people have dropped the stock bulb down the hole while trying to remove it.  In the picture below you can see the part #s that I bought and where I bought them from.

I'm waiting for the Cobb turbo inlet to go with my Cobb intake. It's suppose to go on sale Jan.30Th, no price yet but I'm there. I'm also waiting on a group buy on boost tubes with T-bolt clamps on another forum. I already have one step colder plugs waiting to go in when I take off the IC to install the boost tubes. My car is Cosmic blue and my engine theme is going blue also. Cobb sri, Cobb turbo inlet, Boost tubes and rec. hose are all going blue. I want to buy some blue silicone vac hoses but I'm not sure what sizes to get yet. I'll have to start researching this or maybe someone could direct me as to the sizes I need.

950 from taxes... what do you think i should do, these are the three options i'm considering

Option one all new. ETS 3.5 tmic upgraded, TRZ engine and tranny mount combo and forge BPV

Option 2: used Sb and PNP and New forged BPV or upgraded mounts

Option 3: be like everyone else in america and horde my money and give no chance for the economy to turn around...

yeah I'm not gonna do option three but just venting with option 3

oh current mods are CS test pipe(installed) cs dp(uninstalled), and msd dashawk +PG intake in the mail

Indy Fogs

I just successfully did the Independent (Indy) fog light Mod on my Speed 3. I used a nice how-to on another forum. It's easier than I thought it would be and the hardest part is lying on the floorboard with a poor angle at the wiring harnesses. The how-to suggested to remove the glove box if you need to have more room. I would probably do that if I had to do it again.

I have emailed them multiple times about their exhaust trying to get lengths and what not but never got anything back from them.  Kind of a shitty deal if you ask me.  I doubt I'll order from them since they are somewhat local.  I would go there and ask them but they are not open on weekends.

im sure it aint nothing too crazy. have to sign a waiver and have a tech make sure the car is lifted correctly. my dad owns a high rise building maintenance company im sure it couldn't be any higher than that.

wouldn't be bad at all if i wasn't going to school part time still.  Just dropped about 3K last month on tuition and books alone... NTM my DP/RP/DH/and PG intake.

On a plus note, i just found out their is a place that does JET HOT coatings about five miles from me.  So i'm going to take my DP and RP and get it coated by them.  And maybe take the valve cover and get that coated in like red or something.  Not sure what color i would go with as a second color, maybe do the valve cover in their main silver color and do small accessories in different colors.  I.E. alternator housing, intake, IC piping etc etc.... just gotta decide a second color

I installed OBX R boost tubes and Denso IVT22 plugs a few hours ago. The tubes are better than the stockers, blue to match my Cobb intake and inlet and came with T-bolt clamps. It was part of a group buy on another forum. I decided to replace the stock plugs with one step colder plugs while I had the IC off.

That's not a very funny joke.

I've tried to stop slacking on this whole modding thing. New wheels arrive Wednesday, gonna paint my calipers while I have the wheels off I think. Also ordered an ARC Ti shift knob and I've been eyeing the DG carbon splitter for a while now. I'll probably pull the trigger, depending on how much I spend at the gun show this coming weekend.

I had them for around 2-3 months. Hated the look so I stepped my game up and got the MS RAYS. Stepped my game up again last week when my BBS came in. I'm hoping to have them on tomorrow, provided I can source a baseball bat for my rear fenders.

Love the car, not so much the scene..
They are not very welcoming and modding it is SO freckin expensive..

I find the opposite is true, at least locally. All the local VW owners are nice guys who are always willing to lend a hand or a tool if someone needs something. Most of the newer car scene kiddies I could do without, they all would have been better off if they ended up on a towel.

so i decided i'm not gonna spend 1600 on just rims, but i might get some P1 rotas and have them PROFESSIONALLY painted, maybe orange probably white or either powder coated depending on how much that cost.  The difference in cost will be enough to get me some more goodies performance wise

Much better idea... I spent 1100 I think getting rims, tires, mounted balanced and shipped...

Older pic, but you get the idea... MB 'Boost' rims.

well tonight i avoided getting hit by some ass hole running from the cops.  3 cops on the tail of this Buick celebrity almost hit me.  i guess the guy running made a last minute decision to change directions and go the wrong way down the road and ended up drifting past me inches away.

I'm stock, but tomorrow and Saturday I'm installing the CP-E CAI, Cobb sts and TWM bushings, Greddy BOV recirc (if I can fix it) and TRZ rear mm.  Then in a few weeks it'll be the CP-E turbo inlet, Hotchkis Sways, and hopefully a turbo timer and defi boost gauge 60 mm installed in the left air vent.  Appearance wise I ordered vinyls to black out the reflectors, Nightshade for the side markers.  I may replace all turn signal lights with whites instead of yellow/orange and black out rear lights, depends on funds.

My hood is on my roof... My engine is 20 minutes away from my car... My tranny and intake mani are on a dolly... 2 of my rims are up in the storage area of my brothers garage... but she's coming along! haha.

Clutch got back ordered... sigh...  I need to pick up some new caliper paint to get those redone... Cheapest price on the G2 kit? Is it still the best? Other suggestions?

Your OZ's are at least different but I don't think they're quite baller status.

PS: If you guys have any questions about methanol I can do my best to answer them. I had great results on my old car using it.

Let's see...I put on the boost tubes, race pipe, and motor mount for the VIR event and that will have to carry me for a while.

About the most I have a possibility of right now is to get that stock grille off and get a badgeless one, if not it will be tinted by June.

My big deal right now is to get the Turbo seals replaced under warranty or the guy behind me at the red light won't be a happy one ;)

yo if you can get the turbo replaced you should be very happy! i got mine replaced it is a newly designed turbo. they changed the way the oil flows through it which allows the seals not to leak. the tech said its good for full tbe :) we'll see how my car holds up

I was going to get new tires but I'm going to wait now. I have 23,000 on the OEM tires and after the trip down and back with all the twisties in between, my tires will be done. What budget summer tire should I buy? I was hoping to keep it under $150 per tire. Looking to get 225/45/18's

I just ordered an exhaust for my car today.  Should have it in a day or two.

Cosmic, I have heard good results with the Nexxen line of tires that are pretty cheap.  Maybe the higher end ones could be a decent choice.

I went with Fierce HP's when I went to 18's on my MZ3, for the 225/40 18 it is like 90 bucks.

Which Hankooks?. I'm looking at the Hankook VENTUS V12 EVO K110. They are $124 each at Tires-Easy.com.

The Hankook Ventus S1 evo's are $105 each at TireRack.

The Sumitomo HTR Z III are $136 each at Tire Rack, all of these are max performance summer.

General Exclaim UHP are $110 with $50 rebate on four tires and are listed as Ultra performance(one step down). I have heard from a speed 6 owner that has these tires and he says they ride nice and straightline grip is good but the sidewalls are a little soft.

Falken FK-452 are $117 at Tires-Easy.com and got good ratings.

Nitto NT555 EXTREME are $121 Each at Tires-Easy.com

Hopefully you will get it in time...I have heard horror stories about their shipping...

He will certainly have them in time for EECMM 2010

I have ordered one item before, but ended up canceling it due to taking so long...come to find out they didn't have it in stock...that is the thing with the DG items...from talking with Ken through PM, they don't usually stock DG products and usually order through them and then once they receive the item they ship it off...so I went straight through them when I ordered...not sure if they stock the Mazda3 items though...

If I had time to get a mandrel bent pipe... maybe... but it won't be nearly as efficient, not to mention the wittle turbo on there since I had fitament issues... IF i can ever get the knocking noise out of my motor... we'll see. I'm going to eventually either have to get a manifold spacer (lol) or have some work done to the mani to get a better angle for clearance and shit... but thats long down the road now. We'll see.

well one thing leads to another.. i'm gonna be painting my calipers, and while i have them off i might as well change brakes and lines since i was going to EVENTUALLY do that... so Corksport lines and hawk HP pads are a go.. just waiting on a price from ken at PG...

and the the calipers are going to be black with orange mazdaspeed... and if i can't get a hold of orange decals like i want, i'll just paint a section orange, slap the decal over the orange, paint the rest black, take the decal off, and and clear it all... i'll probably do that anyway

My parents walked out on me working on my car and started freaking out, cause I promised them no power mods till I paid them back.  I was installing my intake and Boost Gauge, they also found out my DP is coming tomorrow, and the shop called to confirm my stage 2 tune.

But I'll have it done by EECMM, going in next monday for the coil over install, and I'm picking up an SPS so I'll have a bit of a surprise at the meet.  ;)

I'm out of money for now, so no surprises from me. I'm going to need a new set of tires when I get back and that will take my money for the next six months. Maybe then I can get the AP. It would be just awesome if I could win the CP-E drawing. May be the only way I'll have a front mount and a DP anytime soon.

3d gear is the weakest in 3,  I had problems with it in both my auto and manual 3's.  That's why I ultimitly got rid of my last one, and the frame damage.

Gl man, maybe I'll have a chance this meet w/ the tune I'm running.  24 psi boost I hope I don't blow my k03..

Can't wait to see all the shiet you guys have put on the speeds in the last year..

Smaller turbo and smaller engine, I was running 20 at Stage 1 no bolt ones, Stage 2 w/ DP and SRI will put me at 22, and well with my 100 Octane tune ill be holding ~24.  God I just cant keep a secret haha..

Once I upgrade to the K04 that you guys have ill be back to 18-20..

Revo stage 1 ( What im currently flashed with) holds 20 spikes 22, REVO stage 2 93 octane file hold 22 spikes 24, REVO stage 2 100 octane file holds 24 spikes 26.

My SPS will have the stock, hold ~15 psi, stage 2 93 and stage 2 100..

Ill be using fuel additives most likely, untill I can get a water/meth kit functioning, anyone know if any of the gas stations around the Dragon offer race fuel??

I know NJ is fucking retarded about most things but that really doesn't make any sense. If you can purchase leaded fuels from a race shop you should be able to purchase methanol.

My engine is not getting enough fuel.
They have replaced my in-tank and engine fuel pumps, rails, lines, injectors, camshaft..
The mechanice told me they have nothin else they can do, they have been working with VWoA for the plast 2 weeks.  We thought we had it fixed when they put the .:R32 fuel pump in, that didnt work.
Now they are deciding if they wanna give me a new engine and hope that works, or let me trade my '07 in for what I paid plus interest i paid on my car, if they do that, I'm getting a black 2 door '09 GTI, fo' freeeee

Tokina 11-16..  I was looking all over for one that someone would have in stock.  The lens has been on backorder ($600 lens) for MONTHS now and everyone that rents them has been out of stock forever.  I almost had to go with the Canon 10-20 but fortunately found someone that had one in stock for rental.  I'll be getting it Tuesday.  I'm so stoked!

I washed my car and rotated the wheels. I'm not going to tape either and will go straight to the car wash when I get there to spray off the guts. Then wash and detail Saturday morning.
