Title: Mazda Car Show & BBQ
Post by: small town king on November 26, 2008, 03:21:28 AM
So I'm thinking, this is the house us OG's are gonna be getting, and I'm thinking the EECMM car show can be done in the driveway, and we can have a giant BBQ afterwards//during.

Anyone who's car comes, pitches in 5$, you get a little EECMM car show ticket or whatever, and we proceed from there....Problem there is.....We gotta find a big enough grill hahaha

Just picture that driveway, the big loop all filled with Mazdas....mmmmmm.

Post thoughts!

i wish i still had the grill we had at our campspot we made it out of the front clip i had. it was badass. i should have made my car rhd instead of making a fucking grill though. heres an idea instead of pics of all the cars in the drive way it should be of 50 people cooking on their tiny grillz

i say we do a bar-b-q there like friday night....try getting all the out of towners together....won't be everyone but we don't everyone rolling up to the mansion

then saturday we do the show somewhere else....maybe try to find a place like we had last year at myrtle

I wasn't there last year but that sounds like a better idea.  I think if you want other people to show up it would be better held somewhere else.  I know of a photographer up there that would probably do a shoot at the show, she usually does stang shoots but her pictuhs are legit.

yea i'd rather get the car show away from the mansion

but pay see if ur friend is interested..

and jeff from carolina mazdas says there is a restaraunt they hit up every year like tradition. he said we're more than welcome to tag along.... if we dont do that we can save the bbq for after the car show. most people will be in town on saturday than ne other day

Just sent her a message, I'll see what she thinks.

Alright, this is what she told me.  I'm about to send her a message back with the link to the forums.  Tell me what you guys think.

If at least 10 or more cars participate.. I can do $20 a car? I've been to Deal's Gap, the Dragon. It's in Robbinsville which is 45 min away from me. I'm in Franklin, right by the Georgia line.

I'll go ahead and put that in my schedule but I'd expect you to keep me updated on the meet :)

As far as a actual place to have the meet-- I'd try the High School there, since in June nobody will be there and you'll have the parking lot for the meet and it's right by subway, wendy's, mcd's and the grocery store.

So your page says "Arkansas" you're coming all the way from there?? sweet. Just keep me updated. I'll even have a model or two if needed/wanted by any car owners.

I'd love to have your business!

$20 a car isn't really a bad deal.  Especially if she is going to supply models  :o

I too will be bringing the cameras.

Remember, if we go on the dragon during the day there are photographers EVERYWHERE.  Killboy.com zeefoto.com and another one I cant remember.  They have online galleries you can find your car on by date and order prints of those.  They are $$$ but you can get a spectacular print of your car with some nice scenery framed and shipped.  Its a pretty neat thing.  I was going to order one of me on my bike when I was down there but never got the chance.

if yall want her to come out and bring models then 1st we need to see pics of the models, some of her work, and then we need to have enough people LOCKED in on wanting her to come and take pics. we cant have her come out and only get 1 car lol.

we can do bar-b-q's....hell prolly gonna be one pretty much every night.  still going to need to do the car show at some place with an actual parking lot.

saturdays the big day...we run the dragon...eat and car show/meet something like last year.  yes it's a big driveway but we aren't getting 30-40 or more cars wrapped around it in a good show fashion

I work at an industrial bakery and can bring bread, rolls, cookies and iced cakes for the BBQ. I plan on driving down Friday morning from Kentucky and can drop off the goodies around noon. I'm not sure where I'm staying yet but I was hoping to camp. I have read that someone wanted to camp in the back yard of the mansion, will that be allowed and does the back yard have woods behind it or other houses?

We donate tons of food to the Appalachian food bank every year. All 450 employees can get these 3 donations each year and most go to school events, church cookouts, Halloween festivals, family reunions etc... No kids will starve to death if I bring cakes and cookies.

Just think of all the kids that could have eaten the grain that will be used to make the beer that will be consumed that weekend. How can you guys sleep at night. We should probably invite at least one homeless person to stay at the mansion and maybe we should pitch in and buy some carbon credits from ALGORE to cover the global warming...oops climate change problems we will be contributing to while we cruise around joy riding. I propose we impose a fun tax on everyone that will be attending, should raise alot of money.

How are you with vertigo?  The dragon is very twisty and seems to last forever.  I got dizzy a few times going through because there are so many corners that I lost my sense of direction.  Not to mention the dragon is in the mountains and is quite high up.  I still have yet to get my video up from last year, but I'll try to get it up soon.

I just got off the phone with Lynn (owner of Lynn's Place). She said she spoke with a lady over at the court house and they said that would be no problem for us to use the parking lot there. This is the funny part, it is empty on Saturdays but if anything there'll be a cop car or two. I spoke to her about catering and we both agreed it'd be easier for them not to cater and whoever would like to eat there can just walk over and eat.

The location for the meet is about 3 miles from the Mansion she said so that means its also close to Microtel too. I will most likely need to talk to the lady she spoke with at the court house to make sure we will have the lot for sure and not a most likely. I also invited her and her staff over to the BBQ on Saturday for helping us out which she was pretty excited about. She said she'd treat me to a free lunch :).

So I guess now we need to pick a time to have the car show.. I'm thinking around 11 or 12 or 1?

Below is some stuff from the menu. If there is anything that yall would like that isn't on the menu let me know and I'll tell Lynn. She said that she can whip it up if it's not the list.

Chicken dinners, Steak dinners, Seafood dinners, Pastas, Soups, Salads, Cheesecakes (nice variety and good deserts)

it is all nicely priced too, should be a good eat

good work corbet!!!  :)

this food place have a website?  and when are we going to run the dragon?  assuming we'll just do the car show after that...i don't know though

we gotta know/figure out how long the run will take....i mean run the dragon....come back...let people grab a bite there and do the car show thing...then back to the mansion or something else....maybe show first then dragon run

Show first and then everyone leaves together to run the dragon. The show will have to be in the morning when it's cool. The drive during the heat of the day, Air conditioning. The BBQ that afternoon and the Party that night.

+1 Lets do the show at noon - that way everyone has time to wake up, get some breakfast, clean up the cars and get together... Then we can all grab a bite to eat, and attempt to train appropriately through the dragon...

Nice work Corbs. Thanks.

for real??  the dragon...i thought it was like an hour or 2?

if we do 15 mph for the entire dragon it would still be less than an hour... like 50 minutes.. lol

It might take us 20 minutes to get TO the dragon, but only about 30 minutes to drive through it I imagine...

Of course the drive back is 30 min too.... so an hour total... and 20+20 to get there and back... So yea, 2 hours I guess overall.

i spoke with a guy here in naples 2day he does z days there for the past 4 years. he said the same thing jeff did early runs are the best mid day is jammed uhh. he said every year they lose a car to the dragon, not totalled but someone crashed outta the 200 cars they get. so BE CAREFUL.

he said its a 2nd and 3rd gear drive fastest he went was 80mph

we really should check this with jeff like wat time to run and stuff he knows more

The dragon is best to be run early or a little later in the day.  I would say 3 pm would be great because then the photographers will still be out there.  There really isn't any place to take pics until you get to the top.  The skyway is a drive from the dragon but is well worth it.  I believe where we are staying might be close to the blue ridge?  If so we should definitely take the blue ridge for a while till we hit that one road that I went on on the way home.  The blue ridge is breath taking in the scenery that you'll see too.  Plenty of stop points to take some pics.  We might want to do heats instead of one big group.  It might be easier.  Also we will have to watch out for the po po on the dragon.  THP is notorious for bs tickets.  Touching the center line with a tire is grounds for a big ticket.  Also, you will need to bring proof of insurance.  I remember 2 years ago we got stopped at a checkpoint and they were looking for a valid license and a proof of insurance.  So remember to bring that.

I'm anticipating a ticket this year. I haven't had one for awhile now, and I think I'm due  :-X

I've been pulled over 3 times in the last month with no ticket, and one of the times was for doing donuts in an AWD Ford 500 hahahaha

I'm gonna make sure I have allllll the necessary paper work at hand and be extra courteous hahaha.

Early morning can be real foggy.

The LEOs show up round 10ish.

Having groups of less than ten helps alot.

What i tell people is to cruise through at the speed limit it on the first pass so that You know where the po is and to get a feel for the road.

Well it was a design flaw that caused issue last time.

Seth's and James' work great once I added in the extention mod... I might make another batch up. Just a pain in the ass building them lol. Once it's warmer again I probably won't mind so much... the 2 feet of snow we have outside really has me down haha.
