New installs planned, anyone? I'll start.
« on: May 09, 2011, 08:35:50 PM »
I have an EGR block off kit and I'm waiting for an intake manifold thermal gasket that also comes with the throttle body gasket. I also will have a new camera mount for the car, homemade one I have now works but vibrates some.

That's a lot to do in time for the meet. Good luck.

I understand, was just worried that it's a lot to do in a short amount of time. Unexpected issues always seem to pop up.

Your next mods should be a rear motor mount, shifter bushings and a test pipe. Should run you around $300 for all that. The rear mount and the shifter bushings will help you plant and use the power the car has more efficiently. The test pipe will give the car a deeper sound but only slightly louder and an additional 5-10 HP.

questions to the gurus:
1.  with the 08 speed's tmic, is the fmic something i should be looking into?  or is it redundant? :-\
2.  is the shifter bushing and ssp a simple job to complete on my own?  :-\

one more question:
3.  if i were to get some of these mods, will i be able to get them installed at oct's meet? ???

Your Welcome, Bring what ever you buy to the meet and I'll help you put it on. I'm not a fan of SSP's but the bushings and the SSP are an easy job and both should come with instruction or you download them from the sellers site. Get a Rear Motor mount, The mount along with the bushings are a great mod. They are both easy to do.

Almost forgot, the FMIC should come later. There are other mods you should do first. Rear MM, Bushings, Test pipe, Turbo inlet pipe, Forge BPV and the Cobb AP.

^ listen to this guy. i would say also do a downpipe before a front mount. front mount really just lets you use the power from your mods longer(less heat soak than top mount intercooler).  also if you need any help with ssp or bushing i dont care to help either. just did mine....30 min job max. very easy.

A DP is a big job and a catted pipe is $$$. I don't believe Rukie wants to go that far anyway.

This mount comes as a package with the shifter bushings and is a good deal. This mount is not as stiff as some but the vibrations won't be bad like with some of the stiffer mounts. Street Unit is a good company, I've ordered from them many times.

http://www.streetunit.com/MAZDA3_Engine_Mount_and_Solid_Shifter_Spacers_p/su30.htm

This is their test pipe, it cost about $20 more than you can buy on e-bay but I have heard mixed reviews on the fitment of the e-bay pipes. I have the SU test pipe and a clone of the SU RMM.

http://www.streetunit.com/MS3_Test_Pipe_p/sums3sstp.htm

This will cost $329 total. There are other cheaper options cheaper options on the mount and bushings. see below.

James Barone Racing, heard nothing but good things about this guy. He is the one that also makes the SSP.

http://jamesbaroneracing.com/Motor_Mounts/MS3/Billet/index.htm

http://jamesbaroneracing.com/MS3/GEN1/Bushings/index.htm

E-bay test pipes. They have gotten cheaper since the last time I looked them up. The first one is more expensive but I see it has a floating flange like the street unit one. The other appears to be fixed flanges, which is ok if they line up perfectly. The floating flange on one end is more forgiving if the pipe doesn't line up perfectly.

but before you get a test pipe would you ever think about doing a downpipe? you can get a long catted DP with a single cat that will eliminate the need for a test pipe. CNT makes a pretty nice DP. I just installed one a couple weeks ago. but before you buy any more performance bolt ons Id get those internals and the AP.

@Ace- im trying to keep it simple with a few bolt-ons....i have a baby on the way and have to keep my spending under the radar of my wife...lol...the DP sounds great but i am too old for all the ruckus...i just want to keep it simple and quiet as possible...scott is steering me in that direction with his suggested mods

Sounds good. Just didn't want you to get a test pipe now and then want a DP a year down the road.
You've already go the SRI so like he was saying just get a RMM, AP, and shifter bushings. Id also recommend a turbo inlet pipe, a nice BPV, and an upgraded TMIC. Sounds reasonable for your goals.
